- ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- ⅓ cup (67 g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (100 g) packed light brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1½ cups (188 g) all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup (130 g) white chocolate chips or chunks
- ¾ cup (100 g) dried cranberries
Optional
- ½ teaspoon orange zest
- ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- Extra white chocolate chips and dried cranberries for topping
- Pinch of flaky sea salt
Instructions
1. Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheets
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
Set aside.
2. Combine the Melted Butter and Sugars
Place the melted butter in a large mixing bowl.
Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar.
Whisk for about 1–2 minutes, until smooth and well combined.
Allow the butter to cool slightly before proceeding.
3. Add the Egg and Vanilla
Add the egg and vanilla extract.
Whisk until completely combined and the mixture looks smooth and glossy.
4. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Make sure the baking soda and salt are evenly distributed throughout the flour.
5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture.
Use a spatula or wooden spoon to stir until just combined.
Do not overmix.
The finished dough should be soft and slightly thick.
6. Add the White Chocolate and Cranberries
Fold in the white chocolate chips and dried cranberries.
If using orange zest or chopped nuts, add them at this stage.
Mix just until evenly distributed.
7. Chill the Dough
Cover the bowl and refrigerate the cookie dough for 30 minutes.
Chilling helps control spreading and gives the cookies a thicker, chewier texture.
For especially thick cookies, chill for up to 1 hour.
8. Scoop the Cookies
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion the dough into balls about 1½ tablespoons each.
Place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving approximately 2 inches (5 cm) between each cookie.
For a bakery-style appearance, gently press a few extra white chocolate chips and dried cranberries onto the tops.
9. Bake
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden while the centers still look slightly soft.
Do not wait for the cookies to become completely firm in the oven.
They will continue setting as they cool.
10. Cool
Remove the baking sheet from the oven.
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
For a slightly salty finish, sprinkle a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt over the warm cookies.
Chef’s Tips
- Cool the melted butter: Butter that’s too hot can partially cook the egg and make the dough too loose.
- Measure flour accurately: Too much flour can make the cookies dry and cakey.
- Don’t overmix: Stop as soon as the flour disappears.
- Chill the dough: This keeps the cookies from spreading too thin.
- Don’t overbake: The centers should still look slightly underdone when removed from the oven.
- Use good-quality white chocolate: It makes a noticeable difference in flavor.
- Chop large cranberries: Smaller pieces distribute more evenly through the dough.

Freeze the Dough
