Recipe Information

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 8–12 minutes
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 croissants
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Oven Temperature: 375°F (190°C)

Ingredients

Garlic Butter Croissants

  • 4 plain croissants
  • 60 g unsalted butter, softened (about ¼ cup)
  • 4 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

Optional Garnishes

  • Extra grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.

2. Prepare the Garlic Butter

In a small bowl, combine:

  • Softened butter
  • Finely minced garlic
  • Chopped fresh parsley
  • Italian seasoning
  • Salt
  • Grated Parmesan cheese

Mix everything together until the garlic and herbs are evenly distributed throughout the butter.

The mixture should be soft and easily spreadable.

3. Prepare the Croissants

Using a sharp serrated knife, carefully slice each croissant horizontally, almost all the way through.

You can leave one edge attached like a sandwich, or slice them completely in half if preferred.

Be gentle so the delicate croissants do not tear apart.

4. Add the Garlic Butter

Spread a generous amount of the garlic butter mixture inside each croissant.

Make sure some of the butter reaches the inner layers and folds of the croissant for maximum flavor.

Place the croissants back together if you separated the halves.

Use any remaining garlic butter to lightly spread over the tops.

5. Add Parmesan

Sprinkle a little extra Parmesan cheese over the tops of the croissants.

For extra flavor, add a small pinch of Italian seasoning or freshly ground black pepper.

6. Bake

Arrange the croissants on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 8–12 minutes, or until:

  • The croissants are heated through.
  • The edges are lightly crisp.
  • The garlic butter has melted into the flaky layers.
  • The Parmesan is melted and lightly golden.

Keep an eye on them during the final few minutes, as croissants can brown quickly.

7. Serve

Remove the croissants from the oven.

Allow them to cool for 1–2 minutes.

Sprinkle with additional fresh parsley and Parmesan, if desired.

Serve warm.

Chef’s Tips

Use Softened, Not Melted Butter

Softened butter is easier to mix with the garlic and herbs and stays evenly distributed while spreading.

Don’t Overbake

Croissants are already baked, so they only need enough time to warm through and allow the garlic butter to melt.

Overbaking can make them dry and overly crisp.

Use Fresh Garlic

Freshly minced garlic gives these croissants the strongest and most aromatic flavor.

For a milder garlic flavor, use 2–3 cloves instead of four.

Spread Between the Layers

For especially flavorful croissants, gently open some of the natural folds and spread a little garlic butter between them.

Delicious Variations

Cheesy Garlic Croissants

Add ½ cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese inside the croissants before baking.

Spicy Garlic Croissants

Mix ¼–½ tsp red pepper flakes into the garlic butter.

Garlic Herb Croissants

Add fresh chopped basil, chives, or rosemary along with the parsley.

Creamy Garlic Croissants

Spread a thin layer of cream cheese inside each croissant before adding the garlic butter.

Pizza-Style Croissants

Add mozzarella cheese and a small amount of pizza sauce inside the croissants, then sprinkle the tops with Parmesan.

Air Fryer Method

Preheat the air fryer to 320°F (160°C).

Place the prepared croissants in the basket, leaving space between them.

Air fry for 3–5 minutes, until warm, crisp around the edges, and the butter has melted.

Check frequently, as air fryer cooking times can vary.

Make-Ahead Instructions

The garlic butter can be prepared up to 3 days in advance.

Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Allow it to soften slightly before spreading onto the croissants.

For the freshest texture, assemble and bake the croissants shortly before serving.

Storage

These croissants are best enjoyed fresh and warm.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a 325°F (165°C) oven for approximately 5–7 minutes.

You can also reheat them in an air fryer for 2–3 minutes.

Avoid microwaving for too long, as it can make the croissants soft rather than flaky.

What to Serve With Garlic Butter Croissants

These savory croissants pair beautifully with:

  • Creamy pasta
  • Tomato soup
  • Chicken soup
  • Caesar salad
  • Grilled chicken
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Omelets
  • Roasted vegetables

The Final Result

These Garlic Butter Croissants are flaky, warm, buttery, and bursting with savory garlic and herb flavor. The melted Parmesan adds a delicious salty finish, while the crisp edges and soft interior make every bite irresistible.

A simple bakery-style upgrade that turns ordinary croissants into something truly special! 🥐🧄🧈
