⏱ Recipe Information

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Chill Time: 30 minutes
Bake Time: 12–15 minutes
Total Time: About 1 hour
Yield: 30–36 cookies
Difficulty: Easy

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 can (395 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour (maida)
  • ½ cup (60 g) cornstarch
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting, optional

Instructions

🧈 1. Cream the Butter

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Line one or two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Place the softened butter in a large mixing bowl.

Beat for 2–3 minutes, until smooth, creamy, and slightly fluffy.

🥛 2. Add the Condensed Milk

Gradually add the sweetened condensed milk while mixing on low speed.

Add the vanilla extract and salt.

Mix until the mixture is smooth and completely combined.

🌾 3. Combine the Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and cornstarch.

Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter and condensed milk mixture.

Mix just until a soft dough forms.

Don’t overmix once the flour is incorporated. Overworking the dough can make the cookies less tender.

❄️ 4. Chill the Dough

Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dough for approximately 30 minutes.

Chilling makes the dough easier to handle and helps the cookies maintain their shape while baking.

🍪 5. Shape the Cookies

Scoop out small portions of dough, approximately 1 tablespoon each.

Roll each portion into a smooth ball.

Arrange the balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between them.

Gently flatten each cookie with the bottom of a glass or the palm of your hand.

For a decorative finish, press lightly with a fork to create a simple crisscross pattern.

🔥 6. Bake

Place the cookies in the preheated oven.

Bake for approximately 12–15 minutes.

The cookies should look set and pale, with only the very edges beginning to turn lightly golden.

Don’t wait for the cookies to become deeply golden. These cookies are meant to stay light, soft, and delicate.

❄️ 7. Cool

Remove the baking sheet from the oven.

Allow the cookies to cool on the tray for 5 minutes.

Then carefully transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

They will firm up as they cool while retaining their tender texture.

✨ 8. Finish

Once completely cool, dust the cookies lightly with powdered sugar if desired.

Serve with tea, coffee, milk, or your favorite hot drink.

⭐ Chef’s Tips

Use Softened Butter

Butter should be soft enough to press easily with your finger but not melted.

Measure Flour Correctly

Too much flour can make these cookies dry. Spoon flour into your measuring cup and level it rather than packing it down.

Don’t Overbake

The cookies should remain quite pale. Overbaking will make them harder and less delicate.

Chill If Necessary

If your kitchen is warm and the dough feels sticky, refrigerate it for another 10–15 minutes before shaping.

Keep the Cookies Similar in Size

Uniform cookies bake more evenly and finish at the same time.

🍪 Easy Variations

Chocolate Condensed Milk Cookies

Replace ¼ cup of the flour with ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder.

Coconut Cookies

Add ½ cup finely shredded desiccated coconut to the dough.

Cardamom Cookies

Add ½ teaspoon ground cardamom for a fragrant, bakery-style variation.

Lemon Cookies

Add 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest along with the vanilla.

Chocolate-Dipped

Once completely cooled, dip half of each cookie into melted chocolate and allow it to set.

🧊 Storage

Store completely cooled cookies in an airtight container.

Room temperature: Up to 5 days.

Keep them away from moisture to preserve their delicate texture.

❄️ Freezing

The unbaked dough can be wrapped tightly and frozen for up to 2 months.

Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before shaping.

Baked cookies can also be frozen in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.

Thaw at room temperature.
